House of Character™ Program Goal: To help educators and youth development professionals build kids of character.
Learn By Doing Activity: Engages kids of all ages in a fun filled way where they learn valuable developmental assets of respect, character, positive attitude, honesty, appreciating diversity, leadership, teamwork and more.
Skills Being Developed: Kindness, Respect, Understanding, Communication, Problem Solving, Leadership, Impromptu Presentation and Teamwork.
The three steps
HOW to build a House of Character™ are:
- Engagement: Hand out 12+ cards to small teams of 4 to 8
- Processing: Invite students to discuss and then select which character traits they want on their foundation and then build their house.
- Debriefing and Reflection: Share with the larger group why they selected those traits and how they built it. Invite each team to present the challenges and problem solving, leadership and teamwork skills to overcome these challenges.
