“I direct and operate a summer day camp in Charlottesville, VA which also does team building programs at schools year round.
The GivaGeta cards and program are perfect for the in school team building. We love it when the children are drawn to the cards and utilize them to recognize how their feelings are affecting others and how other people’s feelings are affecting them.
We recommend these cards to ANYONE that wants to make a positive impact in children’s lives.” ~ “H” Rothenberg, Day Camp Director, VA
"At our camp, we feel that learning by doing is really the best way for kids or anybody to learn. By having activities in staff training, we're modeling that behavior and we want them to take it in and model it with our campers. It's definitely making our world a better place. We are broken up into different age levels and I think having this type of activity book is again a tool for the staff to use to introduce this really important message to our campers." ~ Heidi T., Camp Director
"I see the book as a great tool for staff orientation first and foremost. There are very few tools that are good in staff orientation that then just be transferred right over onto the kids. The sleepover camp setting it is a home run because the kids are sitting in the bunks and they have time and they play cards all the time anyway. Even in the day camps, where you have these groups when everyone is pressed for time, you will find a lot of time during the day where they are early for their assignment and they time to sit down or it is a rainy day and they can sit here and start playing these card games and I can see the kids going for it. It is real organic, earthy kind of natural stuff." ~ Andy P., Camp Director, Columbus NJ
"I work for an organization that develops girls as leaders and I work with a lot of the adult staff who have to have a lot of strength, courage, confidence to build our other girls to have those qualities. So at a big meeting we had I was able to give away The World's Kindest Playing Cards and about 75% of them still have the cards glued to their screens in their office. It totally reminds me of when I'm having a bad day to be kind to everyone else.
When we did the activities their face was kind of like 'I have to give a smile and get a smile--I don't get it, I don't even feel comfortable doing this.' And then I started getting really goofy and excited in my whole camp self and they were just super excited for it. So my energy for the GivaGeta cards was really contagious and they just caught on and it's still going and that's been about 8 months later. Some of my staff members went to Camp West last year in 2009 and they went to Jim's session about GivaGeta and they came back to the hotel room begging me, like 'Please, please. We need this, we need to work on this.' I did this exercise with staff and so our staff is between the ages of 30 and 75 years old so this is the first time a lot of them had ever been exposed to an exercise like this. It engages everyone from the 3 year old who can understand what these cards are to the person who's ready to retire. They all need this encouragement." ~ Monique N.
"I really like the cards. It’s taking something that is very simple that we would do all the time and putting a really pleasant twist on it. I like the games that are in the book. It is just a different way of using them. It builds right on the YMCA character development traits. We implement that in all of our Y programs."
